National Day of Service: African Foods in America, From Farm to Fork

FASOFoods1 Faso Foods was cordially invited to represent a panel at a Food Justice Panel. David Washington, Sales Rep for Faso Foods, spoke about the African Gourmet Food Industry and how Faso Foods has transformed American palates with our Euro-centric products.

Within the food justice movement, little discussion was focused on access to culturally-relevant foods. With a population boom of foreign-born Africans in America, access to fresh traditional foods has achieved a strong demand.  Also fueling the need for change is the diet-related disease epidemic impacting people of African descent consuming the standard American diet.

Research shows that people adopting traditional diets and culture have improved health and quality of life. In this panel session, experts  will explore  strategies to help make  original ‘soul food’ mainstream. By bringing together agricultural lawyers, activists, food purveyors and restaurateurs, participants  will collectively take a look at legal, economic, political and nutritional implications of African foods in America.

The panel was moderated by Tambra Raye Stevenson, founder of NativSol Kitchen and invited panel speakers ranged from Katharine Ferguson, Rural Policy Director to Reginald Carey, Director of Business Development for Very Peri Sauces.

FASOFoods.2Guests were also able to sample a variety of African juices from Moriba’s gourmet line.  Juices ranging from lychee to mango were imbibed by guests  who were delighted in trying something reminiscent of African nations.
