John Engle: Magic In The Mundane

For the past 20 years, John Engle has been taking pictures of nature, portraits and eclectic events in the DMV area. Alot of his nature shots are taken in nature sanctuaries along the Potomac River.  Also his past exhibits have flourished in Fredericksburg and Blacksburg Virginia. Engle, however, is not your run-of-the-mill photographer since his past, present and even future work captures magic in the mundane.

At first glance this may seem like a turn valve but if you inch your eyes closer and truly dig past its’ exterior, you get enshrouded with this  ‘Alfred Hitchcock’ mystic of the valve possibly being a prop from “Psycho”.

I think I have an active imagination because I thought this was an underwater shot of  clandestine coral.  I was beyond wrong though when I reread the caption found on Deviant Art’s website. Apparently this is a close up of  Irish whiskey, warm beer and a dry Martini.

Believe it or not, this picture was not tainted by Photoshop but cultivated by Engle’s Cannon 20D. It’s a medium shot of the culturally diverse band ” Wine and Alchemy”, who normally perform at Rennaissance festivals across the country. Besides the band-mates being eye candy, this angled shot captures unrequited feelings and fantasies any Ren-fest bystander could possibly have of the power duo.
