Only At Starbucks: Exotic Coffee Blend from Galapagos San Cristobal

In Food on August 30, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Only for a limited time offer, the Starbucks located on 12055 Rockville Pike
Rockville, MD 20852-1603, is offering a rare coffee blend derived from the Galapagos San Cristobal’s Bourbon trees.

The blend comes from a scarce quantity of  130-year-old Bourban trees, and it  inherently carries  a robust, medium-bodied coffee taste with soft herbal and cocoa notes.

It’s a deviation from their usual blends since it doesn’t carry with it, the trademark hearty aftertaste.

If you don’t believe the description above, try a free sample  at this particular Starbucks.

Samples are only offered for a short while so try to stop by ASAP!

Jim Parsons:Sheldon Won an Emmy, OMG!

In Celebrities on August 30, 2010 at 4:26 am

Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory, won an emmy–finally.

Every year, it’s always someone like Steve Carrell or Alec Baldwin ( there’s like a million Baldwin brothers) who wins for Lead Actor in a Comedy.

Though I respect these male leads, I wanted the most socially awkward character on TV to win.Sheldon represents millions of awkward Americans who inhabit school, work, and social places.Awkward people deserve recognition since they vastly contribute to society.

I think Parsons is actually socially awkward, somewhat, in real-life. Have you heard his speech? My goodness, he totally rocks!

Roger Manno:Leadership Takes Teamwork

In Politics on August 26, 2010 at 1:23 pm

For the past four years, Delegate Roger Manno has served Maryland’s 19th legislative district. As a delegate, he has received the highest legislative rating in the state by the Progressive Maryland Education Fund and is only one of two legislators in the state to receive a a perfect score from both Environment Maryland and the Maryland League of Conservation Voters.

It’s transparent to any constituent from the area that Manno puts forth 100 percent into all of his  initiatives.

With a stellar track like that, why not vote him into the senate? Why not extol  at this prospect? Besides the fact that Manno has the ingenuity and the drive to raise constituents concerns at the Maryland State Senate, he’s dealt with something that not all candidates have dealt with, a childhood wrought with broken health care promises.

As a young child, his entire family faced a slew of health problems and like millions of Americans in the past, suffered through shaky health care. Lack of health care not only cost his father his own life, but it left his mother in thousands of dollars of debt.

It was bad enough dealing with hard pressed bill collectors; but it was doubly worse when young Manno suffered from an atrial defect and his own mother had to battle cervical cancer, without health insurance.

Without  insurance, it was close to impossible for his family to afford necessary procedures to sustain his and his mother’s lives.  They had to resort to tertiary attempts,(sans skilled physicians, modern medical tools and proper facilities) as a way to deal. It was sheer luck that his mother ran into a local pediatric cardiologist who felt for the small family’s dire health and economic status, thus,  regularly took care of him for free.

Altruism, in free medical form, is quite uncommon.  Young Manno was lucky and knew, since then, to take it upon himself to correct social injustices like this.

Manno personally knew that American healthcare was flawed and has always worked towards comprehensive health care reform so no one else would ever go through what he went through. Losing a father, and almost being penniless at a young age.

His campaign’s motto is: leadership takes teamwork. This is true, especially since it takes a supportive coalition of votes to pass legislature that will ensure families affordable healthcare.

Manno is one vote that truly encompasses what several residents in district 19 have faced due to lackluster health care. With your teamwork(votes) and his leadership (fighting for you), district 19 may not face what Manno faced, as a young boy.

Aruna Miller:Can Transport District 15 Into Progress

In Uncategorized on August 25, 2010 at 9:33 pm

Aruna Miller is running to be delegate of District 15, in Montgomery County Maryland. Besides the obvious, some may not know that  before she even considered running for office, she’s been employed as a  transportation engineer, in our country for the past 20 years.

Miller’s experience  allowed her to oversee programs that have facilitated safer access to employment centers, schools, and community facilities for all users–especially for those with disabilities.

As a Democrat, she’s kept that same momentum going when it came to her past initiatives with fund raising efforts for presidential candidates.

Miller has successfully ran to represent Montgomery County Democrats as an At-Large member of the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, in December 2006.

In her past position, she has brought a confluence of young voters, fortified communities with education on health care and the environment; and as a member of SOC ( Serving Our Communities) she has fostered political and leadership growth.

Her experiences truly color  over what she plans to bring to district 15.  Though Miller’s past initiatives have born greater progress in the county, it’s her heartfelt belief that the spread of  education is paramount in reducing reliance on social services and with attracting businesses into the area:that alone, won me over.

Education is vital into revitalizing a strife economy. Based on her past progress alone, it’s apparent that she will “transport” constituents of  district 15 into investing in their future, via portend ways to provide ample funding for Maryland education, past K-12. Miller knows that by strengthening early education, it will endow higher education for ALL.

A vote for Aruna Miller will transport district 15 into better accessible education, safer roads, and confident voters. A vote for Miller  will transport progress.

Meet Hoan Dang:A Candidate With Business Know-How

In Uncategorized on August 25, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. Complaining is not enough to quash the problem away. You can’t just talk a problem away with iterance. So why not lessen the severity by casting a vote?

Hoan Dang is not just any candidate running to be delegate of District 19, he’s a candidate with extensive business and regulatory experience, and that’s what we need to combat our sticky job situation.

Dang has worked in the private sector for over 11 years and  has actually  helped small business owners comply with government regulations, and knows the conditions that small businesses face.Past experiences, alone, peg Dang as a great assistant to small businesses when it comes to keeping and expanding them.

Our U.S history books is a great indication of what can spawn success or failure in the future. Precisely when it comes to economic success, up to 80% of all new jobs in the U.S. are created by small-business owners.

Dang’s major concern for small business health, is a strong indication that he’s well aware of how to facilitate an economically healthier  district 19.

If you delve further into his website, you  see that he places Jobs above all other issues. If elected, he  portends to “strive to bring high-quality public and private jobs to District 19 by increasing the funds allocated to the Small Business Credit Recovery Program, offering tax incentives for businesses already based in Maryland, and simplify the process by which small business owners can qualify to bid on state contracts.”

His vows aren’t cheap; they are pregnant with  experience and have underpinnings in mending faltering small businesses.Educationally speaking, he did earn an MBA in Finance and a Master of Science in Operations Research from the University of Maryland. He has the street smarts AND the book smarts to tackle this issue head on.

Dang worked at a Maryland-based Fortune 500 corporation, for the past 11 years, as: a senior financial analyst, an internal auditor and a regulatory compliance officer. In Dang’s last position,”he has  helped his company and hundreds of subcontractors — most of whom were small and disadvantaged businesses — comply with federal acquisitions regulations (FAR).”

Vote for a candidate who knows a thing or too about struggling small businesses. Who knows what it takes to help them pull out of their own turmoil and who knows that a healthy economy, comes from job growth. Vote Hoan Dang! A candidate with business know-how.

National Women’s History Project: It’s Not Always HIS- Story, Sometimes It’s Hers

In Uncategorized on August 25, 2010 at 6:18 am

In the past 50 years, when  you  glance  into a high school/middle school history book, you may notice how it seems to be about his- story versus her- story. When a young girl  opens up a history book and gleans for anything  her own gender  has accomplished over the past hundred years, she would’ve came up dry.

It would be hard for her not to feel worthless since women, in older history books, were depicted as waifs, midwives, or slaves. Not as anything spectacular.

Since it’s inception, NWHP, founded in Santa Rosa, California, has been  the nation-wide source for unfolding woman’s roles in American history. The core mantra with NWHP is to add women back into HIS-tory and to recognize them:from all backgrounds and  occupations.

Besides NWHP’s vantage point as being the sole creators of national woman’s history month for the U.S. NWHP  has also “… led both local and national efforts, consults, publishes, distributes, inspires, advises, and networks with a wide variety of institutions and activists in the field.”

If it wasn’t for them, would women even be recognized for  their contributions in:science, community, government, literature, art, sports, and medicine– and would any of it be in our U.S history books TODAY?

If you want to learn more about NWHP, please visit their website.

Jango:A Better Alternative To Pandora

In Music on August 25, 2010 at 5:43 am

I’ve been an earnest fan of Pandora for sometime now. I have an array of stations ranging from The Bee Gees to Drake.

I like how I can listen to Pandora without paying a monthly fee and I have finite opportunities  to skip over songs that irk me, i.e., anything featuring Taylor Swift.

Now remember, I never said I loved Pandora, I only said that I liked it.Jango is the love of my online radio life. It beats Pandora for these subsequent reasons:

1.) Pandora is only free for the first 40 hours. After your monthly periods, you can either pay an extra dollar or get bombarded with more advertisement to join Pandora 1 (they have unlimited hours, and no advertisement). Jango, on the other hand, is free 24/7.

2.) Pandora Radio listeners can skip over songs for the first 20-30 minutes. After wards, they are hampered into whatever Pandora has bestowed upon them. No matter how many thumbs down you cast on that song, it will not get skipped. Jango allows you to click on  emoticons that denote whichever song is worthy or not worthy for your personal station. You  also have the ability to skip over to any station, and to not be constricted to Jango’s aforementioned selections.

3.) Pandora flagrantly has ads intermittently placed between songs. These ads ocassionally transform into wide-spread pop-ups that detract from your online musical experience. You can’t skip over these ads since Pandora vaunts how much they need it to provide you free music ( well only the first 40 hours of it). Jango may have pop-up ads but they provider listeners a small blue hyperlink to click out of the ad.  Their ads only pop-up every so often, and with just a simple click from your mouse,  it disappears.

4.) Pandora’s stations play a variety of music, but after awhile the musical selection remains stagnant. Jango changes up their musical selection and gives radio users the chance to help new artists get more air time.

5.) Pandora tends to tither into outlier musical artist selections that don’t always correspond with your aforementioned station. Jango is on key and selects artists with similar tone, lyrics, melody and etc., for your viewing discretion.

6.) Pandora doesn’t  give you an option when it comes to deleting  bands from your station. Jango lets you delete whatever bands,  or songs from all of your stations. In fact, if you get bored with your own station you can tune into another user’s station.

7.) Pandora primarily lets users favorite a song. Jango lets users view pictures, videos and even buy ringtones from their favorite artists.

La Madeleine:Try Their Blackberry Cream Cheese Pastry

In Uncategorized on August 25, 2010 at 3:21 am

I traversed to downtown Bethesda this weekend, and attempted to brush up on my grammar skills. La Madeleine was quaint enough for me, given that it’s furnished with a working fire place, country styled furniture and it serves smooth French coffee. I only had 40 minutes to spare before I had to take the metro to see a friend at Busboys and Poets, off U Street.

Forty minutes sped through, and I was in sheer heaven. Mmmm, blackberry cream cheese pastry!

I asked the baker, what was their most filling dessert and they said their bran muffin. Yeah, I didn’t want to consume cardboard during twilight hours.

I pointed at the most dilapidated treat, scruffed with powder sugar, and congested with nooks and crannies. It was their blackberry cream cheese pastry and the baker said that was their second most filling treat.  It was totally worth my 2 bucks and if I could go back in time, I would’ve bought two more.

It’s not uber sugary like most American desserts. The blackberry taste was subtle and not overly tart. The cream cheese saddled well with my taste buds and didn’t quite taste like the cream cheese found in most cheesecakes. It has a refined, velvety texture and a slight, penetrating taste.

Overall, I’m glad I was obnoxious with the baker. I give this dessert an A, for Awwww yeah!
