Joy Kecken, staff writer for the hit Baltimore drama “ The Wire” moseyed to the lectern, at College of Notre Dame to give a remarkable speech. Her voice was light but her message on being an ethnic women in the Communication arts field grappled heart strings from the crowd.

Kecken exuded confidence during her three year stint as staff writer for ”The Wire” and that energy, she exhibited during her time as a writer, garnered her a director role for an episode from season one.

A personal highlight from the speech is when she preached about always fighting for ones beliefs, never being ashamed of ones origins and to always go after  your dreams.

She ended her thirty minute speech challenging the women in the audience to spark change in the Communications field. Kecken concluded her speech by saying , ” Be true to who you are and just do it.”
